Welcome to the
Burnaby Letter Writers Society

Reviving social connections the old school way – handwritten letters!

Dear Reader,

Thanks for visiting! The Burnaby Letter Writers Society has been a project I have been wanting to get out into the world, but the timing never seemed to work. With the world on lock down and other projects cancelled or postponed, I found myself with time and able to make use of the opportunity and get BLWS launched this month, which happens to be National Card and Letter Writing month. In 2001, the US Postal Service designated April “to raise awareness of the importance and historical significance of card and letter writing.”

We would like to revive the lost art of letter writing and connect people through this analogue way of keep in touch. In today’s world of instant everything, it is nice to restore this ritual of taking a moment and making the effort to let someone know you are thinking of them. There’s nothing as wonderful as opening up your mail box and finding something that is not a bill or flyer!

New to letter writing? We will share resources and inspiration on this site on how to get started or resurrect the snail mail habit. From who to write to, what to write about or perhaps treats you can send in your envelope, we want to show everyone that it is easy to join in. In the future, when we are able to gather again, we will hope to have letter writing meetups where we can gather with a community to learn and draw inspiration from each other.

Happy writing!

To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart.
